AFRICAN CITIES IN HISTORY: LAGOS

FACT: Lagos became a prominent city from this time of the original Black Moors who were sometimes called Phoenicians or Canaanites or Ethiopians or Africans.

It was a major maritime center, renowned for its shipbuilding industry and maritime trade networks. Moorish ships were sent from Lagos to trade networks as far away as the Americas and the Caribbean Islands. Lagos quickly grew in wealth and importance. It soon became the light of the province of the Algarve and was known as the Queen of the Algarve.
